Why use the internet?
The internet has lead me to find places to travel, cheap airline tickets, apartments to rent in Italy and information about how to extend my artistic practice. When twenty four Canadian artists were juried into the Biennale of Contemporary Art in Italy, I connected by the internet to those who would travel to Florence. It was easier to "find" the other Canadians via Goggle than it was to find their physical presence at the huge exhibition.I have enjoyed getting advice from others who have gone there before me, done it before me and explored techniques that I have no experience using. I am thankful for the village that has been created.
In addition, the internet has lead me into the past. On facebook in the last two days I have reconnected with ten of my former students that brought a great deal of inspiration and joy to my life when I lived up north in Houston, B.C. It is fascinating to see what has become of them, what they have made of their lives and that they think of me fondly.
There are many ways that the internet has made my life larger. Not the least of the ways is that I now have my blogs and my on line art galleries so that I can share what my "version" of reality is with others.
Perhaps I can in turn, extend the information and the enrichment to others' lives that has been extended to me.
